Clean Energy Starts Here
By Assemblywoman Fiona Ma
This fall San Francisco voters have the opportunity to make San Francisco a global leader in the fight against global warming and climate change.
Proposition H, the San Francisco Clean Energy Act, is an answer to Al Gore’s energy challenge. It will make San Francisco the first major city in the world to require that its electricity supply be provided by 100% clean and renewable sources.
In a time when we need bold answers to our energy challenges, PG&E has gone backwards, reducing their renewable portfolio over the last three years to just 11%.
Already they’ve spent huge sums of ratepayer money, your money, to spread lies about Proposition H. That’s money that should be invested in maintaining our grid and developing renewable energy resources.
PG&E has built its case against the measure by arguing against revenue bonds. In fact, San Francisco already has approved the exact same revenue bonding authority for wastewater and water. Why not electricity?
The San Francisco Clean Energy Act will put San Francisco in control of its electricity supply. Public power means public accountability. San Franciscans spend billions and billions of dollars on PG&E bills, and yet PG&E never asks us when they invest in dirty power, or cut back on reliability.
We simply cannot count on PG&E to deliver renewable energy and keep costs low for the people of San Francisco. With a 100% Clean Public Power system we will finally have a voice in the most basic of decisions -- how our power is produced, and how our money is spent.
Please support Proposition H and jumpstart the green economy here in San Francisco.
